Wild unspoilt and tranquil cultural landscapes

The Hohe Tauern national park inhabited by many unique animal and plant species is located in one of Europe’s most impressive nature reserves with glistening white glaciers and the peaks of the Großglockner and Großvenediger mountains enthroned above. The national park house in Matrei offers plenty of interesting information about the history, geology, flora and fauna of the national park.

With its 1,856 km², it is the second largest national park in Europe and is by far the biggest nature reserve in the whole Alpine region shared by the federal states Salzburg, Tyrol and Kärnten. Imposing glaciers, steep cliff faces and green meadows combine to form a natural and cultural area of inestimable value.
